  • Basic unit of administration in India
  • Link between state government and grassroots
  • Key role in law & order and development
  • Ensures implementation of policies

2️⃣ District Collector / District Magistrate

  • Chief administrative officer of district
  • Head of revenue administration
  • Responsible for law and order
  • Coordinates development activities
  • Acts as representative of state government

Three Major Roles: Collector (Revenue) + Magistrate (Law & Order) + Development Officer


3️⃣ Revenue Functions

  • Collection of land revenue
  • Maintenance of land records
  • Implementation of land reforms
  • Relief and rehabilitation during disasters

4️⃣ Law & Order Functions

  • District Magistrate under CrPC
  • Supervises police administration
  • Maintains public peace and security
  • Imposes Section 144 when necessary

5️⃣ Development Administration

  • Supervises Panchayati Raj Institutions
